N-Acetyl cysteine (NAC), a powerful antioxidant, is a more stable form of the sulfur amino acid L-cysteine. N-Acetyl cysteine is an excellent precursor of glutathionine, another major antioxidant. Glutathionine is also the precursor, with selenium, of glutathionine peroxidase, one of the most important antioxidant enzymes in the body.*
